How Do You Manage Anger?
Do you get angry sometimes? We all get angry sometimes, and that’s ok. Anger is programmed into all of us as a preconditioned response to various stressful situations. But for some anger can be a real problem, and they may be in need of some anger management techniques.
Anger is human. But like many of our emotions it can be overpowering and it can also get out of control like some other emotions. And when this happens it can do some real damage to a lot of different areas of your life.
It can lead to all sorts of unusual behavior. There are so many ways that someone suffering from uncontrolled anger can manifest that. Some are obvious like shouting, but some are not so obvious. For example it can lead to behavior like short temperedness, sullenness, withdrawal into oneself, chronic grumpiness and overt aggression when dealing with other people.
And there can be way more serious manifestations like violence and threats of violence to other people including the sufferers family, loved ones and children. When anger reaches this stage it is way out of control and something has to be done about it.
And the impact on the lives of the sufferers are severe. Relationships may break down completely, and they can become lonely, resentful and withdrawn, feeling like they’ve totally lost control of their life. And worse.
And it’s not only the life of the anger sufferer that can be at risk, but the overall health as well. There is evidence to suggest that excessive anger can, over time, lead to all sorts of health problems including depression, digestive problems, heart problems, headaches, anxiety and some other related psychological problems, high blood pressure, stroke, skin problems, insomnia and more. Scary isn’t it?
And of course it’s extremely difficult to know when this is going to happen. Everyone suffers the normal frustrations and setbacks of life and no one can avoid this. But normally people get angry and then get over it and carry on.
But although you can’t stop stressful events happening in your life you can affect how you react to them.
Your reaction is under your control. But of course just understanding that doesn’t change very much right now, you need to know more than that, but it does offer some hope to know that yes you can affect how you react.
There are excellent anger management techniques that are available to anyone who takes the time to learn them. Different techniques work for different people, some may need professional counseling and some may be able to make good use of some simple management techniques to control their anger.
But there are some answers that will help if life is spiraling downhill. Anyone with anger management problems will need to make the decision to take control of their life and they also need to be prepared to do whatever it takes to learn. Then they need to start learning some effective anger management techniques.
