Photo Preservation – Creating Photo Montages
Everyone wants to preserve their special moments and special events. So what does everyone do? They take photos, lots and lots of photos. Then the photos are either printed or get downloaded onto their computer. The printed photos usually end up in a shoebox and the downloaded ones stay in a file on the computer. Very seldom does anyone look at them. And when someone does look at them they are at a loss as to when the event took place or years later they don’t even remember who is in the photo. Sound familiar?
Both my mother and mother-in-law filled albums and albums with photos. When they passed away I inherited those albums. It was fun sitting down and going through them. The problem was that I didn’t recognize most of the people. Pictures do tell a story but the story I was seeing was of strangers. The names, dates and occasions were a mystery to me and now lost forever.
I was also one of the countless photo collectors guilty of not labeling my photos and having a stack of boxes chuck full of photos. Then the photos would get mixed in together and a special event became a jumble of events.
Then I decided that what I needed to do to preserve my photos was scrapbooking. I purchased the albums and all the scrapbook paraphernalia which was quite costly. But with time constraints and no motivation to get started, there sat the scrapbooks and all the supplies for what seemed an eternity.
I soon ditched that idea. I needed something simpler. Something that was fun and creative. I needed a unique way of preserving my photos that would become an heirloom for my children. And with three children I needed multiple copies.
The solution was photo montage.
The Art of Montage turns you into an artist. You capture the moments, the events, and the feelings and transform many photos into one storybook photo.
A montage is like a medley of songs. Your favorite songs played in a smooth transition from one tune to the next as you travel down Memory Lane. With your eyes shut you can visualize events in your mind’s eye. A montage is your favorite photos cropped and enhanced and arranged in a smooth transition to create one photo that walks you down Memory Lane visually.
You can be as creative as you like with your montage. You can add names, dates and occasions. You can add frames or borders or clipart. Montage is only as limitless as your imagination.
You can frame and display your montages. They make great conversation pieces. You can also use your montages to chronicle events or use them as a photo journal. Whatever you decide to do with your montages, they are a great way to preserve your photos.
